The Arbeitsstelle Holocaustliteratur at Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen is an interdisciplinary institution that examines Holocaust and concentration camp literature adopting a literary as well as a didactic perspective. The main focus lies on the texts of those who survived the Holocaust. It is not far into the future that the generation of eye-witnesses will no longer exist, therefore we have made it our goal to help ensure that their texts are preserved, so that they continue to be available for future generations in science, schools, and for the general public.
The Arbeitsstelle’s scope of activity includes not only literary research within the frame of edition projects devoted to diverse corpora of texts about the period of National Socialism. It also includes a variety of educational courses, workshops, and excursions to memorial places.
An important goal of the institute is the continuing training and education of future multipliers through intensive dialogue in schools and the involvement of teacher training students and future teachers in seminars as well as in research projects.
The Arbeitsstelle Holocaustliteratur was founded in 1998 at the Institute of German Studies at Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen. The personnel is composed of project associates and volunteers.
Hon.-Prof. Dr. Sascha Feuchert is director of the institute and Dr. Markus Roth is vicedirector.
